Camp Facilities

The former Forestry Service outdoor education centre on the reserve was a much-enjoyed school camp between the 1970s and 1990s before being closed in 2000.

In April 2018, we welcomed back the first school camps since 2000, and since then more and more schools have been discovering this unique camp facility and returning year after year.

Since 2017, we've completed significant renovations, so that today the camp includes:

• Accommodation for up to 24 in the bunkhouse (3 rooms of 8 bunks)

• Accommodation for up to 14 in the main lodge (room one has 6 bunks, room two has 5 bunks and a double bed, and room three has a single bed)

• Modern kitchen facility

• A cosy lounge area with a wood burner

• A modern shower and bathroom block

• Tenting area for up to 40

• 12-seater 4WD van (conditions of use apply)

The Trust welcomes enquiries from schools interested in visiting the reserve or using Mamaku Point as a base for school camps.
